Ever since our democracy was born, we have started playing with it. May it be in the name of individual freedom, social justice or political will. We have provided ourselves the freedom of individual expression, without understanding the meaning of expression. Definitely every individual has freedom of expression of his views, ideas and opinions but in a constructive way. This constructive way of thinking only appears when we have enough of self-discipline, enough of patriotism and enough of tolerance. We are followers of patriots and never try to be patriot. We follow everything that suits us and satisfies our way of thinking. We never bother to stop, look back and think once again. We have no time for it. We are very busy. Busy in making kids, busy in building money in whatever way we can, busy in listening to the breaking news, busy in listening to the so called politicians (criminal) interviews, busy in knowing their scandals and then busy in forgetting those scandals and start searching for the new ones.
Ours is a democracy which allows a criminal to stand and win an election with the majority votes of his criminal gang. How can you think of a crime free society when the nation's parliament is full of persons with records of even proven crimes?
Ours is a democracy which has allowed politicians to create a Pakistan inside Bharat. Today, we have a threat less from outside, more from within.
Ours is a democracy which still fights for allowing or not allowing a senseless day to be celebrated.
We forgot the meaning of the world revolution and now we have revolutions named "Pink Chaddi", "Pub Bharo" or so. And our media has enough time to highlight these revolutions and air interviews of these revolutionists. This is the level of maturity, we have. If one group has acted in a shameful manner, what the other group has done. Is sending Female Undergarments not an immoral act and does it not hurt the sanctity of women? It could have been done in a much matured way by sending or tying "Rahiks" to those who has tried to misbehave with women. A flower hurts more than a sword if used diplomatically.
Ours is a democracy which allows us almost everything for which we are not matured enough.
If this is the definition of democracy, time has come to redefine it. If we do not act now our democracy will take voluntary retirement before it matures.
First of all, stop being proud of a word which has been given to us as an abusive identity, Indian. India, perhaps the only country which is named after its residents. We were first called Indian and then our Bharat was called India - where Indians resides. Whatever excuses the so called historians searches out but this is fact. Else what was the need of calling a place India which already was known as Bharat. Does Bharat did not exist before British Rule? They abused us and we felt and till date feel proud of the same abuse. British government created a Britain here before leaving the country. Our politicians, our leaders, our musicians, our media has created a hype of it and compelled us to feel proud of the abuse. This is known as mass hysteria. No other example can be produced of Mental Slavery bigger than this.
We belong to Bharat and we are Bhartiya and we must feel proud of only this. The word Bharat is not just represents Geographical Boundaries of a land; it is an identity of a land of rich and graceful past. It is a place which was civilized much before the world understood the meaning of civilization. A place which was educated much before the world started learning.
Secondly, if we want a crime free society, we must have crime free leadership. A corrupt leader will lead us only to corruption. For this we must think of an overall change in the Election Procedure. Any candidate willing to stand in election must have a clean record. No criminal case should be pending against him. Then he must be allowed to stand from a constituency pre-decided by the commission, giving him few options to choose. When a student has to write his exam from a Board selected centre to avoid corruption, why not those who will lead the nation, should follow. It may sound impossible, but this can be thought for.
Our democracy is more than 60 years old but still we have not allowed it to mature. And this will never happen because we do not want it to mature. We refuse to mature. Maturity brings responsibility and we are most afraid of it.
